Getting started
Beyond the Message is available to members of participating churches. You need a code from your church to create an account — there is no public sign-up.
- Get your church's code. Churches share the member code in the bulletin, in an announcement, or by email. If you don't have one, ask your church office.
- Create your account. Open the app, tap Sign Up, and enter your email, a password, and the code. The code tells us which church you belong to and whether you're a member or staff.
- Open a message. Your church's published sermons appear in the Archive tab. Tap one to read its study guide, ask questions about it, or download it as a PDF.
Account and sign-in
I don't have a code, or my code isn't working.
Codes are issued by each church, so we can't give you one — ask your church office or whoever announced the app. If you have a code and it's being rejected, check for a typo or an extra space. Codes are not case-sensitive, so auto-capitalization on your phone won't break it. If it still fails, the code may have been changed; email us with your church's name and we'll sort it out.
I forgot my password.
Tap "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen and enter your email. You'll get a reset link — open it and set a new password. If the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder for a message from hello@beyondthemessage.net.
I can't find my church.
On the web, you can search by church name, city, or state. Several churches share the same name, so searching your city often finds the right one faster. If your church isn't listed, it isn't using Beyond the Message yet — and we'd love to talk to them.
My archive is empty.
Only published sermons appear. If your church has just started, staff may still be preparing the first messages. Drafts are visible to staff only.
How do I stop the new-sermon emails?
Sign in, open Account settings, and turn off new-message notifications. Password resets and account email will still be sent, since those are part of having an account.
How do I delete my account?
See the account deletion page for step-by-step instructions and exactly what gets removed.
Using the app
What is a study guide?
Each published message comes with a structured guide: the big idea in the preacher's own words, the key points in the order they were preached, three scripture passages with cross-references, a short summary, and five discussion questions for personal reflection or a small group.
What is Ask the Message?
Ask lets you put a question to a specific sermon and get an answer drawn from what was actually preached in it — not from the internet and not from generic doctrine. Your conversation is saved to your account so it's still there when you come back.
Are the study guides and answers always right?
No. Both are generated by AI from the sermon transcript, and AI can be incomplete or wrong. Treat them as a study aid, not as the preached word and not as pastoral counsel. Check anything important against scripture and against the message itself, and take questions of doctrine to your pastor.
Can other people see the questions I ask?
Your conversation history is private to you — church staff cannot read it. One exception worth knowing: the first question asked about a sermon and its answer are cached so the next person asking something similar gets an instant answer. Cached entries are stored with no link to who asked, but the question text itself may be reused. Ask as you would in a group study, not as you would in a journal. The privacy policy covers this in detail.
Why can't I read the full transcript?
Transcripts are restricted to church staff by design. Search still matches against the full text of every message, so you can find what you're looking for without the transcript being exposed. Study guides and PDF exports never include it.
How do I save or share a study guide?
Open a message and tap Download Study Guide. The guide is generated as a formatted PDF and handed to your device's share sheet, so you can save it to Files, print it, email it, or send it to a group.
How do I switch to dark mode?
Settings → Appearance. Choose System to follow your device setting, or pin it to Light or Dark.

How do I add a sermon?
Upload the caption file from your service livestream. Beyond the Message finds where the message actually begins and ends, trimming worship, announcements, and the altar call, and saves a clean transcript. Review the result, add the title and scripture reference, generate the study guide, then publish.
The extractor trimmed the wrong spot.
It anchors on cues that appear in most services, but every service is different. You can adjust the start and end before saving — always spot-check the first and last lines against what was actually preached.
What's the difference between the two codes?
Your church has a staff code and a member code. Whoever signs up with the staff code can add, edit, publish, and manage sermons. The member code creates a read-only account. Both are entered in the same field at sign-up, so members never need to know which kind they have — give the member code to the congregation and keep the staff code to yourself.
When do members get notified?
When you publish a message, everyone at your church who has notifications on gets one email with the title, reference, and a link to the archive. Drafts never trigger email. Notifications go out blind-copied, so no recipient sees anyone else's address.
We want Beyond the Message at our church.
Email hello@beyondthemessage.net and tell us a little about your church and how you record your services.
Reporting a problem
If something is broken, email us with as much of this as you can — it usually turns a week of back-and-forth into one reply:
- Your church's name and the email on your account.
- What you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- The message title, if it only happens on one sermon.
- Your device and iOS version, and the app version from Settings.
- A screenshot, if the problem is something you can see.
Still stuck?
Email hello@beyondthemessage.net. We're a small team and we answer our own support — expect a reply within two business days, usually sooner.
